Laughs in Spanish

This production is a staged reading, part of Milagro's MUNDO DE LAS MUJERES Women's History Month Festival.

It’s Art Basel, and the stakes are high for the gallery that Mariana runs in the Wynwood Arts District in Miami. And when Mariana’s movie-star mother tries to help out, things get even more complicado. Laughs in Spanish is a fast-paced, cafecíto-induced comedy about art and success – and mothers and daughters.

Playwright Alexis Scheer was born and raised in Miami, Florida in a Jewish-Colombian household. Her mother is from the magical mountains of Medellín and her father is probably the great grandson of Motel the tailor from Fiddler on the Roof. Alexis is a proud alum of New World School of the Arts and holds a BFA in Musical Theatre from The Boston Conservatory and MFA in Playwriting from Boston University. She also has an extensive acting background.
