By My Own Hand, Part 4: MELODY is the next installment of Allie Hankins’ five-part performance series which queers notions of autobiography and self-reflection.Throughout the piece, Allie populates the space with light, shadow, haunted objects, dancing, and songs created with looping cassettes. Sonic textures are built in real time, producing an imperfect and wavering chorus of voices that reveals the aural spaces between harmonies and the surprising pleasure of dissonance while Moments of high-intensity movement adhere to a driving rhythm that interacts with the steady but inexact looping rhythms of the cassettes.
